Party leaders and grassroots activists and Grannies, oh my!
Central Valley Convention a Big Success
by Candi Easter, CDP Region Director, Region 8
The Democratic Central Committees of Fresno, Kern, Kings and Tulare County hosted the first Central Valley Democratic Convention this past Saturday to re-energize and network with fellow Democrats.
Attendees listened to panel discussions on the State of the Valley, State of the State, and State of the Nation. Participants included retired military, various experts on popular issues, grassroots activists, elected politicians, CDC officers and party leaders.
More than 400 Central Valley Democrats attended and enjoyed the booths and entertainment and a "Wall of Honor" depicting the soldiers killed in action in the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars.
California Democratic Party Chairman Art Torres called for all to help stop the Electoral College “reform initiative" that the Giuliani campaign is moving toward the June ballot. Many representatives from presidential candidates were available to gather volunteers for the February 2008 primary.
One of the highlights of the program was a presentation by the "Raging Grannies," a local singing group made up of “age-challenged” ladies who use satire and music to make their political point.
