Take Action: Stop the Impending CA Water Crisis
As soon as tomorrow, the Senate may vote on SB 2XX (Perata), the Safe Clean Drinking Water Act. This legislation comes just in time. This morning the LA Times reported that Metropolitan Water District is cutting its water shipments to Southern California agricultural customers "mark[ing] its first step in dealing with upcoming reductions in water supply and the record dry conditions locally." Last night, in an open letter to Democrats, Senate President Pro Tem asked for Democrats to contact their legislators to support the Democratic play that:
invests $5.4 billion, aimed at three critical goals:
Safeguarding the supply of clean, safe drinking water for homes, businesses and farms.
Encouraging conservation while protecting lakes, rivers and streams from pollution.
Providing the water we need to keep California's economy strong.
Unfortunately, he needs two Republicans to vote for the bill to keep it moving. Please send the Governor and the Legislature a letter to let them know we need real water policy enacted now.
