Kern Democrats: 2007 Dorothy Donahoe Awards Dinner

More than 200 Democrats gathered at the DoubleTree Hotel on Friday night for a $100 a plate dinner to honor local activists. The annual Dorothy Donahoe dinner is the only fundraiser for the Kern County Democratic Party. Kern County Supervisor Michael Rubio served as Master of Ceremonies and Congressman Jim Costa was the Keynote Speaker.
The Good Donkey Award was presented to Holly Spohn-Gross, Robert Gross, Liz Keogh, Janet Garcia, Enrique Acosta, Paul Linfesty, Joy Parker, Ray Florez and Arvin Councilmember Raji Brar.
Jane Prewett was given the Bernice Bonillas Award for grassroots activism and it included a $50 certificate for new shoes. The George White Award given to a local Labor leader was given to Jack Brigham for resurrecting the Central Labor Council. For her work on the state project for High Speed Rail, Shafter Mayor Pro Tem Fran Florez was presented the Woman of the Year Award. Sue Jennings was given the Horace Massey Award in recognition of countless hours spent as the office manager of the 2006 Democratic Headquarters and Treasurer of Democratic Women of Kern. Steve Schilling was given the Lifetime Achievement Award for his years of service to the Kern County Democratic Party and the entire community. The most important award, The Dorothy Donahoe Award and perpetual trophy, went to Kim Salas, a long time activist in Kern County (pictured here with Congressman Jim Costa and Supervisor Michael Rubio).
