Jerry Lewis (R-Washington, D.C./Redlands), the Congressional “King of Pork,” announces he will seek re-election

From Brian Brokaw:

Congressman Jerry Lewis, one of four California Republicans in Congress currently under federal investigation, has decided that his mounting legal and political woes won’t stop him from seeking another term.

From today’s Press-Enterprise: “Rep. Jerry Lewis announced Thursday that he will seek a 16th term in Congress, ending months of speculation over whether the powerful lawmaker would retire at the end of his current term….He said he's running again to make sure the Inland area gets its fair share of federal dollars, pointing out that taxpayers in his district send more to Washington than they get back.”

Lewis neglected to mention his own contribution to that very problem – the fact that the Congressman “has helped steer $2.75 million dollars toward the revitalization of a neighborhood that lies thousands of miles from his Inland Southern California district, but only blocks from his Washington home, according to records and interviews with those close to the project.”

Oh yeah, forgot about that….

Perhaps that explains why on Lewis’s Congressional Website, where the Congressman takes credit for securing funding for some local projects, there is not one mention of the pork he has delivered for his other neighborhood.

Regardless, the Congressman deserves some recognition for his chutzpah. We thought a nice assortment of some of the finest pork products around would be a suitable gift for Lewis.

Only problem is, we don’t know where to send the gift basket – to Redlands, or to Lewis’ real home district, Barracks Row!
