County Spotlight: Sacramento, Grassroots Gearing up for Battleground California

Sacramento County is about as unique as a County can get.  As Chair Kerri Asbury of the Sacramento Democratic Central Committee (DCC) describes, “We are a county of smaller communities, each with its own distinct personality, which makes election time all the more interesting and exciting. When people think of us they tend to assume that we are strictly concerned with Capitol business, but that is not at all the case.”

As it turns out, Sacramento County is packed with the kind of grassroots Democratic activism that would give any county in the State a run for its money. From fighting to oust an incumbent House Republican to registering new voters in the community, Sacramento Democrats are stepping up to the plate.

With Battleground California under way, Democrats here are out in full force. As Kerri explains, “We are committed to seeing Dr. Ami Bera win in CA07, and as part of our commitment, we are increasing our voter registration efforts and doing precinct walks to reach more voters in the area.”

Since Sacramento County’s situation is so unique, Sacramento DCC has partnered with other organizations to reach and educate voters across the broad spectrum of interests in the area. Kerri explains, “We’ve teamed up with organizations such as those in the local labor community, because there are too many critical issues at hand and we all can’t go solo in our attempts to educate local voters. Together we are working to stop the ‘Special Exemptions Act’ and to build support for Governor Brown’s temporary revenue initiative.”

And they’re leaving no stone unturned.

In addition to precinct walks, we are also going to fairs, festivals and local farmers markets to register new voters and to talk to them about the issues that face Sacramento County residents,” said Kerri.

Sacramento County Democrats are as busy as they can be and we are happy to have them on our side!
